Jami Hubbard Solli

Jami Hubbard Solli began her legal career in New York in corporate law firms, following which, in the year 2000, she moved to Italy and worked for an Italian commercial law firm; Studio Legale Carnelutti. In 2005, she joined the International Development Law Organization in Rome, Italy and shifted her career focus from the private sector to a law & development focus; specializing in financial sector regulation & financial consumer protection in developing countries.

Over the years, Jami has consulted for a variety of development focused organizations including development banks, multilateral donor organizations and consumer advocacy organizations; including Consumers International, a global federation of consumer advocacy organizations, where she led various financial consumer rights and access to redress initiatives throughout Africa and the Caribbean.

Jami has a particular interest in preventing financial frauds (especially those preying on the poor), providing debt relief for the over indebted, and applying the principles of experiential learning to financial as well as legal rights education initiatives.
In 2013, Jami established GALA in order to address the perceived access to justice asymmetries in developing countries where donors/investors seem particularly inclined to support economic development initiatives, but much less so to support legal aid, access to justice and public interest advocacy. These are all prerequisites to sustainable socio economic development in any country.
